Doctor of Musical Arts candidate Eunkyung Yoon, a student of Yong Hi Moon, won second prize in The Second Asia-Pacific International F. Chopin Piano Competition in Korea with cash award of €10,000. All prize winners performed at the following gala concert on Oct. 26 at the Keimyung Art Center, Daegu, South Korea.
Washington Garcia (MM ’98, DMA ’03, Piano) was featured as guest soloist with the Austin Symphony Orchestra on Oct. 19 and 20, performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. The performances were conducted by Peter Bay (MM ’80, Conducting), who is celebrating his 15th season as Austin Symphony’s music director.
Timothy Hoft (MM ’06, Music Theory, Piano; DMA ’11, Piano) has recently accepted the tenure-track position of assistant professor of piano and accompanying at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Artist Diploma candidate Ronaldo Rolim (BM ’10, Piano) was awarded the second prize and the special prize for the best performance of a work by Debussy in the International Piano Competition of San Marino.
On Oct. 19-21, Daniel Schlosberg (BM ’00, MM ’01, Piano) curated and performed in the third annual Baltimore Lieder Weekend, to be held at An die Musik, 409 North Charles Street. Baritone Ryan De Ryke (MM ’02, AD ’04, Voice), soprano Samantha Malk, and JHU history professor Peter Jelavich also participated. The theme this year will be Cabaret/Kabarett.
