Joseph Young (AD ’09) has been selected by the League of American Orchestras as one of six conductors to be showcased in the 2011 Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview, scheduled for February 17 and hosted by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. The six winners were chosen from a pool of 150 applicants, and were selected for their experience, talent, and potential to assume a greater leadership role with an American orchestra. Young was the first Peabody-BSO Conducting Fellow.
BSO-Peabody Conducting Fellow Ilyich Rivas will make his Baltimore Symphony Orchestra debut in a subscription concert at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, on Friday, Oct. 14, and Saturday, Oct. 15, and at the Music Center at Strathmore, on Sunday, Oct. 16. Rivas appeared on WAMU’s The Kojo Nnamdi Show to speak about the concert.

Carolyn Kuan (GPD ’04) will conduct Kentucky’s Louisville Orchestra in LIFE: A Journey Through Time on October 2. The event chronicles the earth’s history in seven movements, with music by Philip Glass and images by National Geographic photographer Frans Lanting. A post-performance panel discussion will be held with performers and experts from the Louisville Science Center.
Master of Music candidate in conducting Brandon Keith Brown has been invited by Lorin Maazel to be an apprentice at the 2010 Castleton Festival in Va. He will work directly with Maestro Maazel in an intensive program that includes opportunities to conduct symphonic works and opera.
