The Atlantic Guitar Quartet’s debut album received a review in Baltimore Magazine. “mesmeric chamber music that’s enchanting and peculiar, but never precious. These five compositions […] radiate an intensity that has nothing to do with volume or the layering of instruments. Instead they draw upon an internal combustion that smolders without igniting. It’s a perfect match for music that wafts and curls, and ultimately, lingers so hauntingly.” The ensemble members Petrit Ceku (GPD ’11, Guitar), Kevin Shannon (MM ’06, GPD ’08, Guitar), Zoe Johnstone Stewart (MM ’05, Guitar), and Jonathan Zwi perform works by Olivier Bensa, as well as pieces written specifically for the quartet by composers Christopher Gainey (BM ’04, MM ’06, Composition, Guitar; MM ’06, Music Theory), Ronald Pearl (MM ’85, Guitar) and David Smooke (MM ’95, Composition). The album was funded with a Presser Career Development Grant.
