Soprano Charity Tillemann-Dick (’06) serenaded her doctors at the Cleveland Clinic following a double lung transplant and open heart surgery in September. A video of her performance was featured on CNN.com.
KaNyoung Yoo (MM ’10) and Bu Kyung Shin (MM ’10) were accepted at Songfest, an intensive summer training program for singers and pianists based in Southern California. Both Shin, who is a recipient of the 2010 Marc and Eva Stern Fellowship, and Yoo will be working with three top collaborative pianists: Martin Katz, Graham Johnson, and Margo Garrett.
Washington García (MM ’98, DMA ’03) founded and directed the first Texas State International Piano Festival. The festival, which took place June 5-13 at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, also featured Julian Martin (BM ’72, AD ’77) and Boris Slutsky, chair of the Peabody Piano department, on its faculty.
Jonathan Moyer (DMA ’10, GPD ’02, Organ; MM ’00, Piano) conducted the Poulenc organ concerto on June 7, at the Church of the Covenant in Cleveland, Ohio, with faculty member Donald Sutherland as organ soloist. Sutherland conducted the Faure Requiem on the same program.
Peabody GPD candidate Graham Middleton has won the Principal Trombone position with the Cleveland Opera Orchestra beginning employment in September of 2010. At Peabody, Graham studies with James Olin and performs with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra as well as with the chamber group Contrafunktus IV.
