Louise Toppin (MM ’86) Reply

Louise Toppin (MM ’85, Piano; MM ’86, Voice) has been hired as professor and chair of voice at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She continues an active career as a soprano most recently appearing as soloist with the Eugene Symphony Orchestra (Oregon). Her fourteenth CD Heart on the Wall, of African American art songs with orchestra, is due for release on Albany Records in the spring.

Yale Gordon Competition winners announced Reply

Yury Shadrin, student of Leon Fleisher, was awarded a first prize in the 2011 Yale Gordon Competition for piano. Shadrin received a prize of $1000, and will play Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, Op. 83 with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra next season, and give a recital on the Homewood campus.

Sejoon Park, student of Boris Slutsky, was awarded a second prize of $500, and Michael Delfin, student of Boris Slutsky, was awarded a third prize of $100.

Judges for the competition were Gabriel Kwok (Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts), Enrico Elisi (Penn State), and Mayron Tsong (University of Maryland).
