Peabody Jazz in Japan Reply

Accompanied by Director of Jazz Studies Gary Thomas, a sextet of Peabody Conservatory jazz students and alumni traveled in January to Kawasaki, Japan, one of Baltimore’s sister cities. The “Baltimore City Peabody Jazz Ensemble”—Jacob Silver, Daniel Cherouny, Kevin Clark, Blake Meister, Russell Kirk, and Daniel Marcellus—performed with ensembles of Japanese jazz students and professionals in concerts at Senzoku Gakuen University, Kawasaki International Center, and Showa University of Music.

Alumnus receives GRAMMY nominations Reply

Lawrence Manchester (BM ’94, Percussion; BM ’95 Recording Arts and Sciences) received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Engineered Album Non-Classical category for his work on Leslie Mendelson’s Swan Feathers album. In addition, the cast album to Shrek The Musical, which he recorded and mixed, was nominated in the Best Musical Show category.

Upcoming concerts Reply

Jane Marvine, oboe, and Edward Palanker, clarinet, will perform in the Chamber Music by Candlelight series this year. On Mar. 14, Palanker will perform the Nino Rota Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano; on Apr. 25, Marvine will perform Music II for Wind Quintet by Brian Wilbur Grundstrom, and Palanker the Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano by Joseph Horovitz; and on May 23, Marvine and Palanker will perform Sergei Prokofiev’s Quintet, Op. 39.

All concerts take place at 7:30 pm at the Second Presbyterian Church, 4200 St. Paul St., Baltimore, MD. Admission is free.
