The Summer Organ Recital Series at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., will feature current DMA student Richard Fitzgerald on August 15. Jin-Sun Cho (MM ’95, GPD ’96), Louis Perazza (GPD ’07), and current MM student Nicholas Will performed on the series earlier this summer.
The Peabody Percussion Group, directed by Robert Van Sice, were winners of the Percussive Arts Society’s International Percussion Ensemble Competition. Each year, the winners—two high school ensembles and three college ensembles—are selected to perform showcase concerts at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), which will be held this year in Indianapolis, Ind., Nov. 10-13.
The Peabody group will perform in the morning of November 12, and later that day, Orlando Cotto (AD ’97) will give a keyboard clinic/performance. Ji Hye Jung (BM ’07) will perform in a showcase concert for new solo works for marimba and vibraphone at the convention on Nov. 13.
Laura Strickling (MM ’06) won third place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Awards vocal competition, held at the NATS 51st National Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 1 and 2. As the third place winner, Strickling was given the Irma Cooper Award from the NATS Foundation and a scholarship to AIMS (American Institute of Musical Studies) in Graz, Austria.
