Tom McNichols (MM ’04) performed in the U.S. premiere Tod Machover’s Death and the Powers: The Robots’ Opera in March at the American Repertory Theater in Boston. The production will move to the Chicago Opera Theater, Apr. 2-10, where McNichols will continue the role of The Administration. He was in the world premiere of the production last summer in Monaco.

Local NATS winners Reply

Six Peabody students, all students of Phyllis Bryn-Julson, won places in the Maryland/D.C. chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition held on March 12 at Howard County Community College. First-place winners in the competition were Marie Marquis, also a student of William Sharp, and Francesca Di Domenico; second-place winners were Molly Young and Sarah Hayashi. Melissa Wimbish and Anais Naharro-Murphy received an honors designation. They will advance to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Vocal Competition, held at Shenendoah University in Winchester, Va., on April 1 and 2.

Christopher Magiera (MM ’07) returns as a member of the famed Semperoper in Dresden, Germany.  In his second season at the house, Magiera will be featured in multiple fantastic roles, including debuts as: Marcello (La bohème), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Danilo (Die Lustige Witwe), and Olivier (Capriccio). He will also return as Conte Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. Magiera will also make his role debut as Belcore in a new production of L’elisir d’amore, conducted by Riccardo Frizza.
