Preparatory students selected as members of All Baltimore County Wind Ensemble Reply

Handong Park, student of Rachel Choe, was selected as the 1st chair flute of All Baltimore County Orchestra at the All County audition held on October 13, 2012.  Ebonie Pierce and Monica Kuo were also selected as members of the flute section of the All Baltimore County Wind Ensemble.

David Hildebrand’s CD and interviews in Anthem and History Detectives Reply

Musicology faculty member David Hildebrand was interviewed as the lead musicologist in his brother Mark Hildebrand’s documentary Anthem, which will be aired on Maryland Public Television on Dec. 19 at 9:00 pm. The DVD is also available for sale. He was also interviewed in a story about the Star Spangled Banner for the History Detectives, a PBS show which will air on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 8:00 pm EST/7:00 pm CST on your local PBS station. Hildebrand’s double CD Music of the War of 1812 should be released by Nov. 15.

Students will perform in Richmond Symphony’s Mozart Requiem Reply

Four students – Master of Music candidate Janna Critz, senior Peter Drackley, and Graduate Performance Diploma candidate Jeff Gates and Melissa Wimbish (GPD ’11, Voice) – were chosen to be soloists with the Richmond Symphony’s Mozart Requiem on Feb. 16 and 17. Auditions were held at Peabody with Erin R. Freeman (DMA ’06, Conducting), who serves at the symphony’s associate conductor and choral chair.

Alumni and student advance in NTD International Vocal Competition Reply

Three of Phyllis Bryn Julson’s former and current students advanced in the New Tang Dynasty Television International Vocal Competition held October 19-21 in New York. Chen Yu (GPD ’12, Voice) and Chi-Chen Jeannie Chiang (MM ’05, Voice) made it to semi-finals at Hunter College. Master of Music candidate Jiyoung Lee was a finalist and competed at Carnegie Hall.
