Musicians in Residence 2019-20 Reply

jhu3057The Peabody Conservatory has selected its student participants for the 2019-20 Musicians-in-Residence program, a signature component of the conservatory’s community-based learning experiences and innovative Breakthrough Curriculum.

The Musicians-in-Residence program places student musicians in residential senior living communities, where they live rent-free in exchange for musical services. Frequent performances and open practice sessions make regular live music a part of the community residents’ experience while developing the students’ skills in performing, presenting, and programming. In 2019-20, Master’s candidate and historical performance specialist Cameron Welke will take up residence at Springwell in Baltimore’s Mount Washington neighborhood. Edenwald, in Towson, will host undergraduate violinist Claire Hebeisen.

Cameron Welke is an active member of the Baltimore early music community who specializes in all different types of historical plucked instruments. He brings his sensitive artistry to the lute, theorbo, and baroque guitar in a wide variety of solo and ensemble settings, and is passionate about performing Renaissance and Baroque music in a way that creates an emotional connection with his audience.

A rising junior at the Conservatory, Claire Hebeisen pursues solo, chamber, and orchestral performance and loves new music, having premiered several of her composer colleagues’ works. A member of both Creative Access and the Peabody String Sinfonia, she has performed in venues ranging from the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage to rehab centers, cancer treatment facilities, and homeless shelters.
