Kendra Preston Receives Society for American Music 2016 Sight and Sound Subvention and More Reply

2015-12-03-18.37.55-300x225Musicologist and music theorist Kendra Preston Leonard (BM ’95, Cello) is the winner of a Society for American Music 2016 Sight and Sound Subvention of up to $1000 for her collaborative project with the Silent Film Sound and Music Archive and pianist Ethan Uslan; a 2016 American Music Research Center Fellowship;  and a 2016-2017 Harry Ransom Center Research Fellowship in the Humanities. The Silent Film Sound and Music Archive, which Ms. Leonard established and directs, is the recipient of a 2016 Grammy Foundation Preservation grant. The American Music Research Center Fellowship involves doing research at University of Colorado at Boulder in their two collections of silent film materials – the Alvin G. Layton Collection and the Hank Troy Collection – for a new project called “Music for the Cinematic Supernatural in the Era of Spiritualism.” Ms. Leonard’s recent and upcoming publications include Music for Silent Film: A Guide to North American Resources, A-R Editions and the Music Library Association Index and Bibliography Series, 2016; The Complete Songs of Louise Talma, CMS Sourcebooks, 2016; and articles in Borrowers and Lenders and Cerae.
